Research on the preparation and characterization of natural zeolite based adsorbents based on chicken egg shells for refining used cooking oil had carried out. The aim of this research was to produce adsorbents which can later be applied to refining used cooking oil. The zeolite was sieved through a 200 mesh (74 μm) sieve, then chemically activated using 10% KOH solution for 1 hour and then dried at 100°C. The egg shells were sieved using a 200 mesh (74 μm) sieve, then washed and dried in the oven at 105°C for 12 hours. Variations in the composition of natural zeolite thighs and chicken egg shells were 100% : 0%, 0% : 100%, 95% : 5%, 90% : 10%, 85% : 15%, 80% : 20%, then printed using Hydraulic press with a load mass of 6 tons for 10 minutes. The printed samples were activated by physics at 600°C for 2 hours. Adsorber was characterized to determine physical properties (porosity and water absorption), mechanical properties (hardness), surface morphology (SEM), elemental content (XRF), XRD testing, and testing the density, viscosity, water content, color and odor of used cooking oil. The results of the physical test showed that the most optimum adsorber at a composition of 80% : 20% at a temperature of 600°C with a porosity value of 81.54% and an oil absorption value of 46.86%, the most optimum adsorber hardness test results at a composition of 100% : 0% at 600°C with a value of 119.639 MPa. The SEM test results with an average pore diameter of 1.232 μm, the elemental content test (XRF), which was the most element Ca 49.64% and the XRD test results show that the crystal structure formed was rhombohedral. The results of the application test showed that the adsorber based on natural zeolite thigh with chicken egg shell composition of 80% : 25% temperature 600°C with a contact time of 1 hour could purify used cooking oil with a decrease in density 68%, viscosity 31%, water content 92%, the color turned yellow and the odor was normal.en_US
