Synthesis of carbon dots based on palm sugar using the hydrothermal method has been carried out. Palm sugar dissolved in aquades added passivation agent consisting of HNO3, H2SO4 and H3BO3 in a ratio of 1:1 was used to synthesis carbon dots by hydrothermal method at 200oC for 9 hours. The resulting solution was centrifuged at 4500 rpm for 40 minutes. The carbon dots obtained were characterized using a 365 nm UV lamp, Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), a UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, and a Photoluminescence Spectrophotometer (PL). The results of the characterization of Carbon dots under a 365 nm UV lamp showed a bluish-green. The FTIR spectrum shows the formation of O-H, C=O, C=C, C-O groups and the presence of groups (C-N, C-S and C-B) indicates that the surface of the carbon dots has been passivated. Absorbance spectrum of UV-Visible Carbon dots with the addition of passivating agents HNO3, H2SO4 and H3BO3 had absorbance peaks at wavelengths of 351 nm, 351 nm, 284 nm and 349 nm. Analysis of Photoluminescence Carbon dots with the addition of passivation agents HNO3, H2SO4 and H3BO3 shows emission peaks at wavelengths of 577.59 nm, 545.3 nm and 535.54 nm with Quantum Yield values of 20%, 13% and 72% respectively for HNO3, H2SO4 and H3BO3.
