Ultrasonic waves were used to synthesize reduced nickel metal from anhydrous nickel chloride salt. Anhydrous nickel chloride salt was made by transforming nickel halide chloride hydrate into hexaaminnickel chloride under vacuum heating for 200°C. his product was combined with tetrahydronaphthalene as the reaction medium with magnesium reducer and then characterized using XRD and XRF. The resultant compound was further evaluated for performance in the glycerol hydrogenolysis reaction for 5 hours at 215°C and 200 psi H2 pressure The reaction mixture was distilled, and the resulting distillate was analyzed using GC-MS. Only a trace of nickel metal was generated by the reduction of nickel chloride. The XRD data indicates a peak in the area of 44.541°, 51.379°, and 96.978°, which were validated by the library as NiCl2, MgCl2, nickel metal, and magnesium metal. The nickel composition was determined by XRF analysis to be 71.799%. According to GC-MS analysis, there was 12.73% acetol, 5.67% 1,2-propanediol, and 8.86% 3- chloro-1,2-propanediol, which produced the catalysis properties of glycerol hydrogenolysis.en_US
