    Abstract
    The research process uses descriptive qualitative methods, namely the data is in the form of words (not numbers) derived from observation and interview techniques. This data collection technique is carried out with the aim of obtaining information relating to the problem of the study being studied. After the data has been collected, the next thing to do is critique or verify the data that has been obtained to determine the facts. This study uses the exchange theory of George Caspar and Peter M. Blau. The problem studied in this study is how the behavior patterns of traders in running ornamental plant businesses in Madirsan alley. Starting from how someone chooses to become a trader and choose ornamental plants as a business, get initial capital in opening an ornamental plant business, what ornamental plants are sold by ornamental plant traders, to the income earned in running an ornamental plant business. Informants in this study were ornamental plant traders, buyers, and ornamental plant employees. Ornamental plants themselves are plants that have their own aesthetic value, ornamental plants are not only in the form of flowering plants, but there are several ornamental plants whose beauty lies in their leaves, stems, branches, roots, aroma and so on. The results of this study indicate that: 1. a). The reasons traders choose to become traders are because they have no attachment to time or superiors, they see business opportunities around their neighborhood, they continue the business their parents have managed for a long time. b. The reason for choosing ornamental plants as a business is because ornamental plants are a type of long-term business, ornamental plant business opportunities are increasingly widespread, and the hobby is in caring for ornamental plants. 2. The pattern of business behavior of ornamental plant traders in the Madirsan Alley of Bangun Sari Village, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency is: a. Get capital such as loans from banks, using your own money. vii b. Economic business activities to market ornamental plants, in collaboration with distributors from outside the city. Marketing strategy to attract buyers. c. Business management such as determining price standards, employees and criteria for selecting employees, as well as the income earned by traders in the ornamental plant business
