Efek Antibakteri Ekstrak Etanol Daun Belimbing Wuluh (Averrhoa blimbi L.) sebagai Alternatif Bahan Irigasi Saluran Akar terhadap Pertumbuhan Fusobacterium nucleatum (In Vitro)
Abstract
The success of endodontic treatment generally depends on two factors: elimination of bacteria from the root canal system and prevention of reinfection. Fusobacterium nucleatum can be found in root canal infections, both primary and secondary infections. Fusobacterium nucleatum is also a causative agent for the development of periapical lesions and endodontic flare-ups. The use of root canal irrigants is used to eliminate and disinfect microorganisms in the root canals. Belimbing wuluh leaves (Averrhoa blimbi L.) is an alternative irrigating ingredients derived from nature which has antibacterial properties such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins and triterpenoids.
This type of research is a laboratory experimental research with a research designpost test only control group design using a sample Fusobacterium nucleatumATCC 25586. As much as 0.5 kg of belimbing wuluh leaves were extracted by maceration until a thick extract of belimbing wuluh leaves was obtained. The extract was diluted with DMSO to obtain concentrations of 3.125%, 1.56%, 0.78%, 0.39% which were replicated 4 times in each treatment group. The MIC determination was carried out by the dilution method using 9 ml of BHIB liquid media, then 0.9 ml of each concentration of test material was added and 0.1 ml of bacterial suspension, mixed withvortex, incubated at 37℃ for 24 hours and then counted the number of colonies.
The results of this study indicate that the ethanol extract of belimbing wuluh leaves has an antibacterial effect onFusobacterium nucleatum with a significance value of p=0.000 (p<0.05). MIC value of starfruit leaf extract against Fusobacterium nucleatum is at a concentration of 1.56% while the KBM value is at a concentration of 3.125%.
