Nanohybrid composite resin is a restorative material that has a combination of
micro-sized and nanometer-sized filler materials. Compressive strength is the internal
resistance to withstand the loads until the object fractures. The compressive strength
of restorative materials is influenced by various factors, one of which is the use of
mouthwash This study aims to determine the influence of 1% povidone-iodine
mouthwash on the nanohybrid composite resin compressive strength. This study used
30 samples of cylindrical nanohybrid composite resin with a diameter of 3 mm and a
height of 6 mm. Samples were divided into five groups, with group 1 as the control
group and 4 others soaked in 1% povidone-iodine mouthwash with different duration;
group 2 (3 hours), group 3 (6 hours), group 4 (9 hours), group 5 (12 hours). The
sample was light-cured with a layering technique. Samples were first soaked in an
aquades solution for 24 hours in an incubator at 37ºC, followed by being soaked in
1% povidone-iodine mouthwash with different duration in the incubator at 37ºC.
Compressive strength was measured using a Universal Testing Machine. The results
of the mean and standard deviation of the compressive strength were 76.13 ± 4.07
MPa in group 1, 60.53 ± 4.44 MPa in group 2, 40.75 ± 2.11 MPa in group 3, 31.81 ±
4.05 MPa in group 4, and 18.28 ± 2.06 MPa in group 5. The One-way ANOVA test
found differences in the compressive strength of the nanohybrid composite resins
after being soaked in 1% povidone-iodine mouthwash for 3 hours, 6 hours, 9 hours,
and 12 hours. The results of the Post Hoc LSD test indicated a significant difference
in compressive strength between groups. It can be concluded that there were
significant differences in the compressive strength of nanohybrid composite resin after being soaked in 1% povidone-iodine mouthwash for 3 hours, 6 hours, 9 hours, and 12 hours.
