| dc.description.abstract | The University of Sumatera Utara (USU) arboretum is a conservation area as well
as a green space which plays an important role in supporting ex-situ conservation
efforts for various species of flora, especially trees. Tree identity in the USU
arboretum is very important information as a reference in determining appropriate
conservation efforts in the future. This research were conducted to identify trees
spesies in arboretum USU, to analyze the diversity, and to analyze potential use
and conservation status of trees species in USU arboretum .This research was
conducted by census, through analyzing the tree that grow in arboretum area. The
vegetation analysis method was employed for this purpose. Descriptive analysis
was also carried out to determine the benefits and conservation status of all species
at the study site. The results showed that there were 77 tree species found in USU
arboretum. Spondias pinnata was the species with the highest number of
individuals, namely 4,878 (33.14%) and the species with the least number of
individuals was Tamarindus indica with 2 individuals (0.01%). Based on Important
Value Index (IVI), Spondias pinnata was the species with the highest IVI at the
seedling and sapling stage, with the value of 44.15% and 54.94%. Tectona grandis
and Alstonia scholaris were species with the highest IVI at the pole and tree stage,
with the value 61.56% and 43.56%. The highest diversity index found in pole stage
(3.302) and the lowest was at the sapling stage (2.048). Based on tree utilization,
28 tree species (36.36%) were wood-producing species, 26 species (33.77%) as
medicinal producers, 6 species (7.79%) as food ingredients, 6 species (7.79%) as
industrial materials, 4 species (5.19%) as ornamental plants and 1 species (1.29%)
as natural pesticides. Based on conservation status 72 tree species (93.50%) have
least concern (LC) status, 2 species (2.59%) have endangered (EN) status, 2 species
(2.59%) have vulnerable (VU) status and 1 species (1.29%) has have data deficient
(DD) status. | en_US |
