incense in the form of bio-briquettes is an aromatic biotic material which then
releases fragrant smoke when burned. Incense itself consists of various simplicia
organs, aromatic plant materials such as roots, rhizomes, bark and wood which
are then combined with essential oils. The purpose of this study was to evaluate
the characteristics of incense and information about the level of preference of
panelists for incense from branches and trunks of gaharu trees in the form of
briquettes. Making bio-briquette incense uses the procedure of carbonizing the
stems and branches of the gaharu plant, grinding and filtering the charcoal,
making adhesives and making aromatherapy bio-briquettes. Tests for
determination of density, moisture content, ash content and volatile matter based
on SNI 06-3730-1995, and data analysis used a completely randomized factorial
design. The results of the study showed that the density values obtained from
agarwood incense with citronella aromatherapy had the best value in the m2b0
treatment, the best moisture content values were found in the m1c1 and m2c2
treatments, the ash content values were m1c2, m0c4, m1c4, m3c1, m4c2, m4c1,
m0c2, m3c2, m2c3, m4b3, m0b2, m4b1, m3b1 and the best aromatherapy volatile
matter levels were found in the m1b1 treatment. In the organoleptic test with
gaharu stem material, the respondents liked the m4b4 treatment and with the
gaharu branch material, the respondents liked the m4c4 treatment
