Abstract

The mangrove forest is a complex ecosystem consisting of flora and fauna that live at the same time between the tidal and low tide boundaries. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of spacing on the growth of red mangroves (R. apiculata) offshore in the mangrove forest area of Pulau Village, using R. Apiculata seedlings. This research activity was carried out for 3 months from August to October 2021. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 6 repetitions and 5 treatments. The distances used in this study were P0 = 36 meters, P1 = 37 meters, P2 = 38 meters, P3 = 39 meters and P4 = 40 meters. Based on the results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) it was found that the spacing treatment from the beach had a significant effect on the growth of height and diameter of R. apiculata seedlings, but had no significant effect on the increase in the number of leaves and leaf area of the seedlings. From this study, the best spacing was obtained in the P2 treatment with a spacing of 38 m from the shoreline with the highest average growth values for seedling height and seedling diameter, namely 37.4 cm/12 weeks and 1.32 mm/12 weeks. As for the leaf area observation parameter with the highest average value found in the P0 treatment with a value of 16.79 mm/12 weeks, while the number of leaves parameter obtained the highest average value in the P1 treatment with a value of 6.25 strands.
