The Macaranga tree, or Mahang (Euphorbiaceae), is a pioneer species of
fast-growing and relatively short-lived that grows in secondary forests and is
characterized as a marker of deforestation or forest disturbance. This study aims
to analyze the diversity of Macaranga trees and compare the proportion of
Macaranga trees in the restoration forest and the nature of Cinta Raja III, Gunung
Lauser National Park. This research was conducted using a random sampling
method with observations measuring 20 m x 20m as many as 40 plots in restoration
and natural forests. Analysis on the data is carried out with the Microsoft Excel
software application. The results showed that there are 3 species of the genus
macaranga in the area. The proportion of the genus macaranga in natural forests
does not differ significantly from that in restoration forests. The genus Macaranga
tanarius is found in many restoration areas because of planting by restoration staff,
the genus is a fast growing plant that is pioneering to improve the structure of the
soil and degraded forest floors, for in natural forests only rely on distribution by
wildlife. and this plant is useful for the habitat of Sumatran orangutan vegetation
(Pongo abelli) which is located at the Cinta Raja III Resort.
