dc.description.abstractEconomic and technological advances in the era of globalization demand the availability of qualified and competent Human Resources (HR) in order to be able to face increasingly high competition. The problem is often found is the low knowledge and ability of employees, this is because employees do not have the competence to achieve performance that exceeds the standards that have been set. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence between the competence and performance of Civil Servants in the North Sumatra Provincial Industry and Trade Service. The research method used in this study used a survey method with a quantitative approach, where this study took samples with the Stratified Random Sampling method and used questionnaires (questionnaires) as a data collection tool. Test validity using product moment formula, reliability of questionnaire using croanbanch alpha formula, and data analysis with the help of SPSS Statistics application. In the study it is known that the results of this study based on a simple linear regression equation show if Y = 22.439 + 0.225 X. The results of the hypothesis test show that there is a positive and significant influence between the competence and performance of employees in the North Sumatra Provincial Industry and Trade Office. Then the results of the coefficient of determination test (R2) showed that the effect produced by competence on employee performance was 8.5%, while the remaining 91.5% was influenced by other factors from outside this study. The Department of Industry and Trade of North Sumatra Province needs to pay attention to and improve competence by conducting training and seminars for employees. This is intended to improve employee performance in carrying out the tasks given effectively and efficiently.en_US
