Sulfation of myristyl alcohol using the SO3-DMF complex where SO3 is produced from the reaction of P4O10 and H2SO4 and also using DMF. Myristyl alcohol sulfation with the SO3-DMF complex was carried out by mixing 0.05 mol (10.7 g) myristyl alcohol into the SO3-DMF complex using a variation of 3, 4 and 5 hour sulfation times. The results obtained were the sulfation of myristyl alcohol with SO3-complex. DMF obtained the yield results, namely the 3-hour variation of sulfation obtained 5.4920g (50.4%), the 4-hour variation of sulfation obtained 6.735g (62.6%) and the 5-hour variation of sulfation obtained 7.8073g (72.8%). The sulfation results also show that the influence of the sulfation reaction time also affects the surface tension where the best results are obtained in reducing the surface tension at a 4 hour sulfation time variation which has a surface tension of 27.4 γ, and the effect of the sulfation reaction time on foam stability at a sulfation time of 3, 4 and 5 hours are relatively stable.
