The operational activity of BPPRD of Medan in doing its respective function should pay its attention to the performance of its employees, especially because it is directly related to serving the public, and it has to serve them maximally by increasing its performance. Employees' performance is highly influenced by various factors such as individual characteristics, competency, and job placement. The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of individual characteristics and competency on employees' performance with job placement as a moderating variable in the employees of BPPRD (Regional Tax and Retribution Management Agency) of Medan. The population comprises 287 BPPRD employees. and 168 of them are taken as the sample by using purposive sampling technique. The data are collected by distributing questionnaires and analyzed by using descriptive statistical analysis and path analysis. The result of the research shows that individual characteristics and competency directly have positive and significant effects on performance while individual characteristics and competency directly have positive and significant effects on job placement, and job placement is able to mediate the correlation of individual characteristics and competency with performance.
