    Abstract
The purpose of this study was to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the hydroquinone content in night cream cosmetics circulating in Medan City and to compare the HPLC method with UV-Vis Spectrophotometry in analyzing hydroquinone in night cream preparations. This research was conducted because the side effects caused by hydroquinone can cause contact dermatitis in the form of white patches on the face or hyperpigmentation. Initial symptoms can include mild skin irritation, heat, red, itching, or black spots on the face due to damage to melanocyte cells. Analysis of the hydroquinone content of night cream at the beauty clinic in Medan City using high-performance liquid chromatography and UV-Vis spectrophotometer has been carried out. This study used a purposive sampling method to take samples. The samples used were 6 preparations of night cream from beauty clinics in Medan City and labeled A-F. Then the samples were analyzed. The results showed that the samples coded A, B and E contained hydroquinone, while the samples coded C, D and F did not contain hydroquinone. The highest hydroquinone was obtained in sample B which was 4.78% and exceeded the allowable hydroquinone threshold (2%). Research data shows that the concentration of hydroquinone in night cream preparations. The use of both methods was used to see which method was more appropriate in analyzing hydroquinone. From the results of the study, the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method showed a clearer spectrum pattern compared to HPLC in detecting the presence of hydroquinone in night cream preparations was 4,03% - 4,78%..
