Synthetic dyes are widely used in various soft drinks because of their resistance to light, temperature, oxygen and oxidation, which can increase the product's attractiveness. However, some adverse health effects will be associated with extra consumption of this dye such as allergy and asthma reactions, DNA damage, and hyperactivity. The dyes commonly used in the manufacture of soft drinks are tartrazine and sunset yellow. Research on the analysis of tartrazine and sunset yellow levels in soft drink preparations has been carried out. The aim is to analyze the dye analysis method (Tartrazine and Sunset yellow) by using the HPLC tool and to analyze the levels of dyes (Tartrazine and Sunset yellow) contained in samples of soft drinks circulating in the community exceeding the normal limits allowed by the Government or not. This study used a purposive sampling method to take samples. The samples used were 6 samples of soft drinks in Medan City and were coded A, B, C, D, E and F and were tested twice (duplo). Then the samples were analyzed using the HPLC method. The results showed that the samples coded A, B, C, D, E and F contained tartrazine and sunset yellow in quantities suitable for consumption, while the sample code D did not contain sunset yellow at all. the maximum level limit set by BPOM in food or beverage products is 70 µg/mL for tartrazine and 300 µg/mL for sunset yellow (HPLC data). The highest concentrations of tartrazine and sunset yellow were found in samples with code F, namely tertrazine concentrations of 118.276318 µg/mL and sunset yellows of 133.83342 µg/mL and sample F was classified as unsafe when consumed. This shows that HPLC can simultaneously analyze the concentration of tartrazine and sunset yellow in soft drinks.en_US
