In fact, many teenagers are unable to complete their education according to their
age level, namely high school, for various reasons such as laziness, school and
even family problems, joining friends and so on. Dropping out of school can have
an impact on the psychological condition of adolescents and cause various social
problems that affect adolescent self-acceptance. This study aims to obtain an
overview of the process of self-acceptance in adolescents who drop out of school,
using a qualitative approach. Data were obtained through interviews and
observations by exploring the five stages of self-acceptance proposed by Germer.
The number of respondents was three (3) people aged 17-18 years in Humbang
Hasundutan Regency. The sampling method uses the snowball sampling technique.
The results of the research at the stage of self-acceptance achieved by the three
respondents namely; Respondent I reached the fifth self-acceptance stage of
friendship-embracing, seeing hidden values within 3 years and went through each
stage quite comfortably because they already had clear goals and plans for their
lives. Respondent II reached the third stage of tolerance-safe enduring self acceptance within 2 years and did not seem to feel fully comfortable at each stage
because he was still late in regret and did not yet have activities and a supportive
environment. Respondent III reached the fifth stage of friendship-embracing,
seeing hidden values within 2 years and went through each stage quite comfortably
and felt more useful after dropping out of school because he had worked and was
able to give to his family. Parents should understand the needs and problems of
education children, exploring the potential, talents and interests of children and
adolescents who drop out of school are expected to participate in the community in
