dc.description.abstractThe Food Information and Management System (SIMPANG) is a means of public accessibility to food as well as the commitment of the Food Security Office of Medan City in creating food security. SIMPANG was published in 2018 under its previous name of Food Security Information System (SIKAP) and changed its name in 2021. The capacity of the Food Security Office of Medan City in providing access to food information through the Food Information and Management System has not been optimal. The capacity of management affects how information on food commodity price data received by the community is not real so that these data can lead to new policies from related stakeholders that have a detrimental impact on the community. The purpose of this study is to determine and describe how the Capacity of the Food Security Office of Medan City in providing access to food information through the Food Information and Management System can be used as an academic reference, and related agencies in developing their organisational capacity considering that food information system services are one of the points of food security in addition to availability and productivity, utilisation, and stability. This research uses descriptive research methods with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of interviews, observations, literature studies, and documentation related to the capacity of the Medan City Food Security Office in providing access to food information through the Food Information and Management System. Based on the data obtained, qualitative data analysis was then carried out using the theoretical approach proposed by Horton that organisational capacity can be seen from resources and management. The resources category includes human resources, infrastructure, technology and finance, while the management category includes strategic leadership, management programmes and processes, and networks and relationships. Through this research, it can be seen that the capacity of the Food Security Office of Medan City in providing access to food information through the Food Information and Management System has not been optimal. The main reasons are the policy of the head of department in cutting the budget and lack of understanding, not yet creating user friendly in utilising technology in website development, and socialisation that is still little done.en_US
