dc.description.abstractThis study examines the understanding of sexual education in high school students in Medan City. The theory used is Emilie Durkheim's theory of moral education and Fitts's self-concept. Sexual education is an effort to educate and direct sexual behavior properly and correctly. Sexual behavior by emphasizing physical and psychological aspects will result in healthy sex for both oneself and others. While the educational background in this study is the level of high school education based on general and religion. In this cluster of senior secondary education, adolescence is the object of research on how influential the understanding of sexual education is between general-based high school students and religion. The method used in this research is quantitative research methods. With a probability sampling technique in the form of simple random sampling or a simple random sample of 96 students and high school students based on general and religion in the city of Medan. The independent or independent variable in this study is the concept of understanding sexual education which includes 4 indicators, namely: (1) reproductive organs, puberty, and reproductive health; (2) pregnancy, contraception, and abortion; (3) sexual behavior and sexually transmitted diseases; (4) stereotypes in gender. Meanwhile, there are 4 indicators for dependent or dependent variable, namely: (1) socialization agent and interest; (2) sexual education material; (3) sexual education in schools; and (4) self-concept. The results of this study were analyzed using the Pearson correlation product moment test on the variable understanding of sexual education with an educational background which showed a correlation coefficient value of 0.458** which is a moderate / strong enough relationship, so H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, so it can be concluded that the variable understanding of education sexual affects the educational background variable with a positive relationship. The existence of differences in the understanding of general-based senior high school students' sexual education and religion in Medan City is influenced by factors of religious education, extracurricular activities in the field of reproductive health and the strength of self-concept towards understanding sexual education.en_US
