This study describes the defense diplomacy of Indonesia and the United States. In the midst of conflict-prone international politics, diplomacy is needed to avoid a truce that only brings poverty to a country. Defense diplomacy is carried out to find a balance between the need to create regional security stability, increase defense capability, and the independence of a country's defenses. The successful implementation of national defense diplomacy is highly dependent on diplomatic efforts undertaken at the global, regional and bilateral levels. From year to year, the US has been listed as Indonesia's strategic partner in the defense sector. In 2014-2019, Indonesia and the US established defense cooperation in all its aspects and Indonesia formulated national interests by utilizing the country's potential resources. The research method used is a qualitative method that comes from secondary data such as journals, books, reports, articles and so on. The result of this research are, in order to achieve its defense independence, Indonesia still needs to establish defense cooperation with strategic partners. Through the vision towards the World Maritime Axis, Indonesia is required to reconstruct and improve all of its defense instruments. However, it needs to be underlined that in establishing this cooperation, Indonesia must be firm in formulating its national interests all at once by trying to be able to stand on its own feet in the sense of self-sustained.
