The former landfil area of Namo Bintang, Kec Pancur Batu, Kab. Deli Serdang is currently still found many heaps of waste which if left unchecked will have a negative impact on the environment. One of the efforts to utilize landfill waste in the area of the former Namo Bintang TPA is as a media for growing plant through the addition of organic matter. Trembesi (Samanea saman) was chosen as the tree species to be tested considering that this type of tree is easy to grow in marginal land environments. This study aims to analyze the growth of trembesi on growing media of garbage and determine the best composition of planting media for the growth of trembesi seedlings. The method used was a quantitative method using non-factorial complete randomized design (CRD) with 5 plant treatments, T0 = TPA 100%, T1 = TPA 80% + top soil 20%, T2 = TPA 70% + top soil 30%, T3 = TPA 80% + charcoal 20%, T4 = TPA 70% + charcoal 30 %. Each treatments was repeated 5 times so that 25 test units were obtained. The data that has been obtained is processed using F- test of variance testing with SPSS software and continued with the DMRT test. The results of this study indicate that the addition of top soil and charcoal to trembesi plants has a significant effect on the increase in height, diameter and dry weight of the roots. The conclusion is that the application of top soil to the growth medium for waste from the former Namo Bintang TPA has a significant effect on height, diameter, and biomass (canopy dry weight and root dry weight). The provision of charcoal has not been able to outperform the effect of top soil on the waste media on the growth of trembesi (Samanea saman). The best dose for improving growing media made from waste on the Landfill area of TPA Namo Bintang Deli Serdang is 30% top soil (T2).en_US
