dc.description.abstract | Drying is one way to reduce the water content. The drying process is commonly
known direct drying in the sun and are most commonly used by farmers in
Indonesia to dry their crops. This is still a very conventional way and had a lot of
obstacles one of which is the weather factor. Erratic weather will greatly affect the
quality of the crop is dried. The water content is too high due to heat is not
sufficient to reduce the moisture content will lead to the development of microbes
or fungi that can lead to decay. Therefore, a tool designed to help farmers
maximize their drying agricultural products. Is a tool designed solar collectors flat
plate type finned with size 2 mx 2 mx 0.17 m. Solar collector consists of a layer of
wood, sterofoam and rockwoll as insulators, aluminum plate as a heat sink and as
a cover glass. In addition to the collector, drying chamber is also designed as a
drying agricultural products with a size of 2 mx 1 mx 1 m. The samples used in
the testing of this tool is manioc (cassava) and red chili. To obtain the efficiency
of the collector rather than testing for 2 (two) days in sunny conditions. From the
results obtained by the analysis carried an average heat radiation that can be
absorbed by the collector is 1856.755 watts, the average heat loss in collector is
442.57 watts and the average efficiency of the solar collector obtained during the
