Soil has very important role as medium to spread the load of the building in it. Soil conditions in every place are very different because soil are scientifically complex and highly variable material. If soil that contained in the field are very loose or very soft with the result that not suitable for development, then the soil should be stabilized. The purpose of this research was to discover the index properties of the original soil and to determine the effect of adding volcanic ash and lime stabilizers to clay from Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang District, as well as to find the optimal mixture that gives the California Bearing Ratio and the greatest Unconfined Compression Test (UCT) of clay stabilized with volcanic ash and lime. From the research results, it was found that the original soil classification according to AASHTO was classified as A-7-6(11) and according to USCS it was classified as CH (Clay–High Plasticity). The original soil samples have a moisture content of 62.50%; specific weight 2.64; liquid limit 61.22%; the plastic limit is 25.24% and the plasticity index is 35.98%. The submerged (CBR) California Bearing Ratio (immersed) in native soil is 3.90% and the Unconfined Compression Test (UCT) value for native soil is 1.15 kg/cm2. Meanwhile, the soaked CBR value for all variations that reached the optimum value was at 12% AGV + 2% K at 9.27%. The UCT value for all variations that reach the optimum value was in the 12% AGV + 2% K variation of 3.2 kg/cm2.en_US
