Analisis Perilaku Pemustaka Tunanetra dalam Pencarian Informasi di Perpustakaan SLB-A Karya Murni

Abstract

The objective of this research is to map the behavior of visually disabled or impaired users in seeking information at Karya Murni SLB-4 (the School for Children with Disabilities-for Blind or Visually Impaired Students) Library by employing qualitative descriptive method. The data are collected through observation, Interviews and documentation with 4 informants determined by goal directed technique sampling. The research results demonstrate that the type of information needed by the user is school textbooks, a collection of fiction and general knowledge Library users seek information in the library, but when they cannot find the information there, they will refer to internet using the schod computers or personal cellular phones that are equipped with JAWS Screen Recorder or NVDA software. The obstacle encountered is that the desired information is not found in the library, bad internet connection and poor computer performance delaying the working process and causing the application nor responding Blind or visually impaired users have looked up for information based on David Ellis' theory of information-seeking behavior with stages Starting Chaining Browsing Differentiating Monitoring Extracting Verifying, and Ending However, there is one phase that is not carried out. It is found that neo informants are not using any reference (Starting Indicator), and one informant does not monitor the information development (Monitoring Indicator).
