High school students are individuals who are in their teens and are starting to
seriously think about their future. One of the developmental tasks in adolescence is
to prepare for a future career so that career maturity is needed. To achieve career
maturity requires the ability to recognize one's own feelings, manage emotions and
motivate oneself which is called emotional intelligence. This study aims to
determine the role of emotional intelligence on career maturity in high school
students in the city of Medan. The sample in this study were 381 high school
students in Medan aged 15-18 years who were obtained through cluster sampling
technique. The measuring instrument used in this study is the emotional intelligence
scale which is based on Goleman's theory (2003) and the career maturity scale
which is based on Super theory (in Sharf, 2013). The results of simple linear
regression analysis show a significance value of 0.000 (Sig. <0.05) meaning that
there is a role of emotional intelligence on the career maturity of high school
students in Medan city of 30.4%
