acuminata L.) Peel Extract Paste 5% and 10%

Many people come to the dentist because they are dissatisfied with the color of their
teeth and want treatment to whiten their teeth. Dental bleaching is a treatment to
lighten the color of the teeth which generally uses hydrogen peroxide which can cause
side effects on the teeth. Barangan banana peel can be used as an alternative natural
ingredient to whiten teeth because it contains saponin compounds. The purpose of this
study was to determine differences in tooth discoloration after the application of 5%
and 10% Barangan banana peel extract paste. The research samples were one or two
permanent premolars in the upper and lower jaw. The number of samples was 32
samples which were divided into 2 groups (n = 16), namely groups with a
concentration of 5% and 10%. The extract was prepared using the maceration
technique by dissolving the dried Barangan banana peel into powder in 70% ethanol
and then rotating the evaporator until it became a thick extract and then made into a
paste with a concentration of 5% and 10%. The paste was applied to the lingual surface
of the teeth, left for 15 minutes and rinsed. Application is carried out every day for 12
days. The values of L, a, b teeth before and after treatment were measured using a
colorimeter. Tooth discoloration (ΔE) is calculated by the formula ΔE= √(L1-L0)2 +
(a1-a0)2 + (b1-b0 )2. The mean and SD values of ΔE 5% and 10% are 2.69 ± 0.5 and
4.58 ± 0.29. Independent t-test showed that there was a significant difference in ΔE
values (p<0.05) between the 5% and 10% concentration groups. It can be concluded
that there is a significant difference in color change of Barangan banana peel extract
paste between the groups at a concentration of 5% and 10%. | en_US |
