Radiography has become one of the main diagnostic tools in dentistry. Radiation apart from being a diagnostic tool also has risks. Children have a higher risk because they are in the period of growth and development. It is important for clinical dental students to know radiation protection in children, in order to minimize exposure and eliminate unnecessary radiation. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of clinical dental students about radiation protection in children at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of North Sumatera. The type of research used is descriptive research with a cross sectional approach method. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire. The number of research samples was 255 clinical dental students. The results of this study showed 84.71% of the study sample knew how radiation protection could be done on children and 82.35% knew the cells in children that are more vulnerable to radiation. This study also showed that only 46.27% of the research sample knew the highest speed film that could minimize radiation exposure and 23.92% knew the type of collimator that could reduce exposure more significantly. The conclusion of this study is that the level of knowledge of clinical dental students at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of North Sumatra are 34,51% have a good level of knowledge, 36.47% have a sufficient level of knowledge, and 29,02% have a low level of knowledge.
