    Abstract
The addition of nano-hydroxyapatite as a filler to glass ionomer cement (GIC) can enhance its mechanical qualities. Scales of the tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) are one natural resource that can be used to create nano-hydroxyapatite. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in surface hardness of GIC after the addition of 2%, 5% and 8% by weight of nano-hydroxyapatite from tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) scales. Samples in the form of tablets with a diameter of 5 mm and a height of 2 mm were made from GIC with nano-hydroxyapatite. Nano-hydroxyapatite (51.71 nm) obtained from fish scales was calcined at 8000C for 5 hours and a ball-mill was used to obtain nano-size. Then the hydroxyapatite particles were measured using a particle size analyzer. A total of 40 samples were divided into 4 groups, namely control (group A), and the addition of 2% (group B), 5% (group C), 8% (group D) by weight of nanohydroxyapatite.. The ratio of GIC powder:nano-hydroxyapatite:liquid of each group was 0.150:0.000:0.050g; 0.147:0.003:0.050g; 0.142:0.007:0.050g; 0.138:0.012:0.050g. Then the homogeneous mixture is put into a tablet-shaped mold using a plastic instrument. The top and bottom of the mold were coated with celluloid strips and 1 kg load was placed until it solidified for 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Surface hardness testing using the Vickers Hardness Tester. Data were analyzed using the One Way Anova test and the Post-Hoc Test with the Games-Howell test. The results of the surface hardness test for groups A, B, C and D were 60.71 ± 1.56 VHN; 52.57 ± 3.57 VHN; 50.97 ± 1.76 VHN; 49.8 ± 1.98 VHN. The results showed a decrease in surface hardness after the addition of nano-hydroxyapatite from tilapia scales. The results of the One Way Anova test showed that there was a significant difference in surface hardness (p<0.05). It can be concluded that there was a significant difference in the surface hardness of GIC after the addition of nano-hydroxyapatite and there was a decrease in surface hardness in the group added with nano-hydroxyapatite.
