Tingkat Pengetahuan Tentang Bahan Bone Graft pada Dokter Gigi Umum di Kota Medan Tahun 2022

Abstract

Bone grafts are often used in dentistry to repair bone damage by stimulating new bone formation to restore the normal structure, and improve function and appearance. This material can come from oneself (autograft), the same species (allograft), different species (xenograft), and synthetic materials (alloplastic). Bone grafts must have characteristics resembling natural bone's biological properties, namely osteoconductive, osteoinductive, and osteogenesis. This study aimed to determine the knowledge level about bone graft materials among general dentists in Medan City. This research is a descriptive study using a questionnaire as a research tool. The questionnaire used consisted of 16 validated questions. The sample selection for this study used simple random sampling and obtained 108 general dentists who were willing to be respondents. Then used, the univariate test was used to analyze the respondents' answers. The study's result found that the level of knowledge about bone graft materials in general dentists in Medan City was in the good category of 4.6%, the moderate category was 25.7%, and the poor category was 69.7%. Basic knowledge of the properties of biomaterials for bone regeneration and their suitable applications is essential in making good clinical choices. It is expected that dentists will continue to update and improve their knowledge of bone graft materials to plan materials to be used in reconstruction procedures to restore an optimal stomatognathic system.
