Pengaruh Vitamin B6 terhadap Sitokin Proinflamasi TNF-Α pada Pergerakan Gigi Ortodonti pada Tikus Wistar
Abstract
Orthodontic treatment in correcting malocclusion involves an inflammatory
process to move the teeth. Excessive and uncontrolled inflammatory processes have a
negative impact on teeth and periodontal tissue. Anti-inflammatory agents can be used
to reduce the ongoing inflammation.
This study aims to determine the effect of vitamin B6 supplementation as an antiinflammatory
in reducing proinflammatory cytokine TNF-α levels which does not
reduce the quality of tooth movement so, it is hoped that vitamin B6 supplementation
can be used as an alternative to anti-inflammatory medication. The research design was
a laboratory experiment with a pretest and posttest design with a control group.
Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups with 3 subgroups. The distance
between Wistar rats' tooth movement was measured using digital calipers with split
mouth method, while the method for analyzing the quantity of TNF-α proinflammatory
cytokines was using ELISA. The mean value of tooth movement increased since day 1
in the control group, while the mean value in the treatment group was less structured.
The results of the ANOVA test showed that there was a significant difference in
orthodontic tooth movement, while there was no significant difference in TNF-α levels
between the control group and the treatment group that was given vitamin B6.The study
concluded that vitamin B6 supplementation reduced levels of the pro-inflammatory
cytokine TNF-α thereby inhibiting orthodontic tooth movement.
