    Abstract
Toxicity Test of Mangosteen Peel Paste (Gracinia mangostana L.) as Pulp Devitalizing Material in Wistar Rats (Rattus norvegicus). xiv+63 pages The pulpotomy devitalizing material that is often used is formocresol but has a toxic effect, so an alternative non-toxic material is needed. Mangosteen peel paste with a concentration of 75% has been proven to be used as an alternative material for pulp devitalization, but safety needs to be ensured because the paste can reach the gingiva if there is a leak in the temporary filling. This study aims to determine the results of toxicity tests and safe doses of mangosteen rind paste as a pulp devitalizing agent in Wistar rats. This study was an experimental post test only control group design in vivo. This study used 20 Wistar rats divided into 4 treatment groups, namely the negative control group, the 0.1 gram, 0.2 gram and 0.5 gram dose groups. The paste applied to the gingival sulcus was observed for 3 days to see the effect of erythema and edema on the gingiva and histological appearance with 100x and 400x magnification. Data on body weight changes and the number of inflammatory cell infiltrates and blood vessels were analyzed using One-way ANOVA followed by Post Hoc LSD while the erythema and edema scores were looked at to determine the irritation index value. Statistical test results revealed that there was no significant difference in the weight change of the Wistar rats before and after the application of mangosteen peel paste in each treatment group. At a dose of 0.2 gram, statistically an increase in the number of inflammatory cell infiltrates has begun to occur but has not caused an irritating effect on the gingiva of the Wistar rats. The irritation index value obtained was 0.65 with a slight irritation classification at a dose of 0.5 grams. The conclusion obtained in this study is mangosteen peel paste (Gracinia mangostana L.) concentration of 75% as a pulp devitalizing agent which is safe to use in doses of 0.1 gram, 0.2 gram but can also be used in doses of 0.5 gram but causes little harm. irritation of the gingiva of the Wistar rats.
