Periodontitis is a periodontal disease caused by the presence of gram-negative anaerobic bacteria, namely Porphyromonas gingivalis. These bacteria play a role in bridging early and late colonies in the formation of oral plaque with other types of gram-negative bacteria. Treatments that can be carried out are scaling and root planning with additional herbal-based therapies such as neem leaves. Neem leaves have active compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins and tripenoids. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of neem leaf extract (Azadirachta indica) on the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria. This research method is laboratory experimental with a post test only control group design research design. The dilution method was used as a sensitivity test for Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria. The bacterial sample used was Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC®33277™. Neem leaf extract obtained through maceration and dilution processes, added to the bacterial suspension with four repetitions. The data analysis used in this study is the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann Whitney test. The results showed that neem leaf extract with a MIC value of 12.5% and MBC of 25% could inhibit and kill Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria.
