The objective of this research is to delve into the effects of characteristics of auditing
committee on financial distress. Characteristics of auditing committee employed in this research
comprise number of auditing committee, frequency of auditing committee meetings, number of
finance experts in the auditing committee, and length of listing. Intellectual capital serves as
the moderating variable.
The population is made up of 65 property and real estate companies listed on Indonesia Stock
Exchange over the period from 2016 until 2020. Using purposive sampling method, a total of
38 companies are obtained as the sample. The financial di.stress criteria are assessed by applying
Modified Altman Z-Score. The data are analysis is made using logistic regression with E-Views
software.
The research findings demonstrate that number of auditing committee, frequency of auditing
committee meeting, number of finance experts in the auditing committee, and length of listing
simultaneously have significant effects on financial distress. The results of partial tests show
frequency of auditing committee meetings and length of listing positively and significantly affect
financial distress. Number of auditing committee and number of finance experts in the auditing
committee do not have any significant effects on financial distress. Intellectual Capital
cannot moderate the effects of number of auditing committee, frequency of auditing
committee meetings, number of finance experts in the auditing committee, and length of
listing on financial distress.
