This study aims to determine the spacing system and effect of weed control with pre-emergence herbicides and post-emergence herbicides on the growth and production of maize. This is studies became conducted from November 2019 to the end of May 2020 in Sendang Rejo Village, Binjai District, Langkat Regency. The design of this research used factorial split-plot design with two factors. The first factor as mainframe is row space system consist of three stages, those are single row (70 cm x 20 cm), double row (20 cm x 20 cm x 70 cm), triangle row (20 cm x 20 cm x 70 cm). The second factor as subordinate frame is weeding control consist of sevent treatments, without weeding, manual weeding, applied with herbicide dimethenamide-P + saflufenacyl 3 days before planting, applied with herbicide dimethenamide-P + saflufenacyl at planting, applied with herbicide dimethenamide-P + saflufenacil at 3 days after planting, applied with herbicide topramezone + atrazine at 14 days after planting, applied with herbicide topramezone + atrazine at 21 days after planting. The type of sampel in this study were plant height, amount of leaf chlorophyll, amount of light intensity, amount of temperature, amount of humidity, number of corn planthopper Stenocranus pasificus, percentage of phytotoxicity, number of weeds, dry weight of weeds and production. The results showed that interaction between spacing system with weeding control with pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicide gave very real effect to weeds population, dry weight of weeds and corn production. Weed control with pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicide gave real effect to population of corn planthopper S. pasificus
