Abstract
UD. Mitra Alumindo Sejahtera is a company that produces glass dish racks. The problems that occur at UD. Mitra Alumindo Sejahtera is an imbalance in the production line, which can be seen from the significant difference in station times at existing work stations. This imbalance causes bottlenecks and work in process that accumulates and waits to be processed at one of the work stations. So it is necessary to balance the production line which aims to maximize work station efficiency by minimizing the number of work stations and reducing time differences between work stations in order to reduce bottlenecks and increase production output so as to meet daily production targets. Problems at UD. Mitra Alumindo Sejahtera was completed using the Tabu Search algorithm method to increase track efficiency and the Rank Positional Weight (RPW) method as initial initials. The stopwatch time study method is used to obtain the standard time for each activity element. The actual production line consists of 7 work stations with a total of 24 work elements. The results of calculating the performance of the actual production line are obtained by a track efficiency value is 21,99%, a balance delay value is 78,01%, and a smoothing index value is 2804,62 and also the idle time is 6867,,53 seconds. While the results of improving the balancing of the production line using the tabu search method obtained the number of work stations as many as 4 stations with a track efficiency value is 86,60%, a balance delay value is 13,40% and a smoothing index is 109,12. Idle time on the proposed production line is 299,69 seconds.
