Denture disinfection methods can be done mechanically, chemically, or a
combination of mechanical and chemical. The chemical method is often recommended
because it is easy to do by immersing the denture in a disinfecting agent and can cover
the entire surface of the denture. Chlorhexidine is a non-traditional denture disinfection
and castor leaf extract (Ricinus communis) is a traditional disinfection that has been
extensively studied at this time. Castor leaf (Ricinus communis) contain chemical
compounds that can work as antimicrobials such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and
linoleic acid. It is possible that the content of chemical compounds in castor oil leaf
can affect the mechanical properties of heat cured polymerized acrylic resin such as
transverse strength and surface hardness. The purpose of this study was to determine
the effect of disinfection of 50% castor leaf extract (Ricinus communis) and 0.2%
chlorhexidine on the transverse strength and surface hardness of the heat cured
polymerized acrylic resin denture base for 1 and 2 year simulations. The design of this
study was a laboratory experimental design with a post test only design with a control
group design. The research results were tested using the univariate test and one-way
Anova test. The mean value of transverse strength after disinfection for 4 days for a 1
year simulation in the 50% castor leaf extract group is 205.30 ± 9.25 MPa, 0.2%
chlorhexidine is 195.66 ± 11.51 MPa, aquadest is 169, 89 ± 20.54 MPa, and the mean
value of transverse strength after disinfection for 8 days a 2 year simulation in the 50%
castor leaf extract group is 183.24 ± 5.23 MPa, 0.2% chlorhexidine is 169.66 ± 7 .57
MPa, and aquadest is 158.18 ± 11.30 MPa. The mean value of surface hardness after
