dc.description.abstract | The objective of this research is to analyze the parenting style of working fathers and mothers in developing the communication of the autistic children at SLBN Autis (the State Specials Needs School for Autistic Children) of Sumatera Utara. Case study method with qualitative approach is employed in this research. Six parents whose children go to SLBN Autis Sumatera Utara and two triangulation informants consisting of the teacher at SLB Negeri Autis Sumatera Utara and an expert in field of Psychology are selected the research subjects. The data collection techniques applied are in-depth interview and relevant theories such as theory of interpersonal communication, theory of family communication, and theory of parenting. Having had the data saturated and fulfilled, the research finds that the implemented parenting style is the affectionated democratic one. The parents work together to take care of their children. They teach their children how to talk and go far a walk, provide example to imitate by giving instruction in spite of the one way communication, and are open as well as positive to exercise communication with their children. They make adjustment when they cannot grant their children’s wish which is considered bad or dangerous. It is concluded tha the parenting style implemented by the working fathers and mothers in developing the communication of the children with autism is the affectionate democratic one which is applied by means of three methods, namely having consistency, giving instruction with modelling, and making adjustmen | en_US |
