Communication behaviour, especially unwillingness to communicate, or the tendency to avoid oral communication is influenced by the role of self-identity Communication apprehension will result in ineffective communication. Effective communication is needed to win the competition in the global community. The purpose of this research was to determine a view of self-identity, a view of communication apprehension, and the influence of self-identity on communication apprehension in accounting students at Medan State Polytechnic The method used in this research is quantitative research methods. The population in this research are second and fourth semester students majoring in accounting Medan State Polytechnic, amounting to 1403 people The research sample consisted of totaling 93 people Determination of the number of samples using Taro Yamane formula. The sampling technique using random sampling techniques The sechnique of collecting data using questionnaires. The results showed that the category of negative self-identity and positive self-identity either balanced on accounting students with a personal identity aspect and relational identity aspect as the dominant aspect Middle level of communication apprehension dominant experienced by accounting students, middle level of communication apprehension dominated experienced by female students, and speech in front of class dominate a situation that caused of communication apprehension. The correlanonal test results with The Paired-Sample T Test showed self-identity has oflence to cucation apprehension with a negative value which means the relationships the opposite direction
