    Abstract
Age estimation is a part of forensic science that plays an important role in the identification process in every aspect of life. Age estimation using teeth can be analyzed using radiographyc methods that can be done based on age groupings (7,8,9,10,11 dan 12 years). There are several age estimation methods using radiography, including the Demirjian method and the Willem method. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference between chronological age and dental age based on the Demirjian and Willem method using panoramic radiographs age 7-12 years and the more accurate method used between the two. This was an observational analytic study with cross sectional design. The study sample was 60 panoramic photographs of 30 male and 30 female patients aged 7-12 years obtained from the medical records of patients who performed orthodontic treatment at RSGM USU. Estimation of dental age can be seen by assessing the stage of tooth calcification according to the Demirjian and Willem method. The result of the study obtained and average chronological age of 9.78 +1.48 years, dental age according of the Demirjian method 9.89+1.45 years and according to the Willem 9.51+1.41 years. There was no significant difference between chronological age and dental age in males and females in each age group of 7-12 years according to the Demirjian method. The Willem method, for males in the age group of 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 years and females in the age group of 7-11 years, there is no significant difference. The Demirjian method overestimates age by 0.11 years, while the Willem method underestimates age by -0.27 years. The conclusion of this study is that the Demirjian method is more accurate than the Willem method.
