Stroke is a public health issue that was often encountered nowadays. This disease is the third leading causes of death in the world. Stroke consists of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. Lipid profile could be defined as total cholesterol, LDL, HDL,VLDL and trigliceride. The accumulation oflipid profile in blood vessels can lead to atherosclerosis which is known have a role in the pathogenesis of stroke,particularly ischemic stroke. Based on this condition, the study is done with the purpose to find out about the overview of lipid profile levels in ischemic stroke patients.
This study was done with descriptive analytic study method, with cross sectional design. This study was held on July - October 2015 at RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan with the subject of this study was all ischemic stroke patients who are hospitalized and done lipid profile levels examination in 2014. The medical record data would be written down after the subjects fulfilled the criteria and would be analyzed with SPSS.
The results obtained in this study that by 200 patients with stroke ischemic mainly as many as 118 patients (59%) had optimal total cholesterol levels, 122 patients (61 %) had above optimal levels ofLDL cholesterol, 123 patients (61.5%) low levels of HDL cholesterol, and 150 people had (75%) optimal levels of trigliceride.
Based on the results of this study concluded that of all ischemic stroke patients who are hospitalized at RSUP H. Adam Malik in 2014 as many as 61% had above optimal levels of LDL cholesterol and 61.5% had low levels of HDL cholesterol. Through this study, the society is expected to be able to apply a healthy lifestyle in order to control the lipid profile in optimal level so can reduce the incidence of ischemic stroke disease.
