Peranan Ruang Terbuka Hijau Taman Beringin Medan sebagai Penyimpan Carbon untuk Mengurangi Pencemaran Udara

Abstract

City park as the element of green openspace is a city subsystem, an ecosystem with open system. Definitively, green openspace is a district or a surface area dominatedly by plants that established to protect some habitat function, and or environment or city medium, and or network protection infrastucture, and or agriculture cultivation.

Beside to increase atmospheric quality and supported water and air sustainability,

green openspace in the middle of city ecosystem can be use to increase city landscape quality. Green openspace expected to overcome the environment problems by absorbing the negative results caused by neighbourhood. Trees and plants has a major role in absorbing pollution that produced by neighbourhood activities. Trees can serve as, among others, storing carbon, not only timber but also another parts of tress such as branches, twigs and leaves. Carbon absorbing from air as small part become biomass. City activities triggered by population growth which increase every year, the growth of the motorcycle reders and factories is not balanced with the expansion of the greenspace area especially in Medan causing increasing of vehicle smoke pollution obiter elevated levels of CO, Pb dan dust in air. Research has been undertaking at Taman Beringin to know how much carbon capable stored in trees and how high the level of pollution of Plumbum and dust in the green open space at Taman Beringin.
