This thesis aim to find change of behavior of embankment with or without
geotextiles. Change of behavior perceived for the variation of strength of base soil
and variation of axial stiffness of geotextiles. Result of from this study is expected
can be used as basic information to using geotextiles with certain axial stiffness for
soil embankment with certain strength.
Analysis only conducted at embankment with same geometric for embankment
without and with reinforcement. Ground water surface level resides at soil surface.
Filling soil use model of Mohr-Coulomb while embankment soil use model of MohrCoulomb
and model of Soft Soil with soil parameter to be compared to beforehand.
Geotextile placed on the surface of base soil flattening before loading. Variation of
geotextile only at value of axial stiffness (EA) according to requirement of program
of Plaxis used.
From result of research obtained conclusion that to find the soil parameter
between Model Mohr-Coulomb and Model of Soft Soil by using simulation oftriaxial
test in Program Plaxis not yet given good result of which either due election of soil
parameter only by trial and error and result compared only graphically.
Usage of geotextile will be able to heighten embankment, but this is matter very
related to stiffness ratio between materials of geotextile with base soil. Usage of
geotextile gives contribution only at condition near to collapse. At early condition
contribution of geotextil relative do not seen.
Changes of excess pore water pressure not give improvement pattern and
dissipation especially at model of Mohr-Coulomb. While for the model of Soft Soil
pressure dissipation of excess pore water pressure seen for embankment with
geotextile. Tension pressure which mobilized at geotextil resulted by distribute to
base soil deformation through interface. Because of biggest deformation happened
around tip of embankment hence biggest tension mobilization happened at around tip
of embankment.
Furthermore research which more comprehensive with enough parameter
variation is needed to obtain by clearer information regarding of geotextile behavior
as reinforcement of embankment. Continuation researches have to conduct modeling
with embankment to collapse and compared to analysis of FEM
