An earthquake of magnitude 76 on Richter scale struck the offshore of West Sumatera in 2009. It took place approximately 50 km to the Northwest from Padang The similar earthquake may very likely strike Padangsidimpuan as the principle of building construction in Padangsidimpuan uses the strong column weak beam as shown by the results of the visual field survey. Meanwhile, the principle in designing seismic-resistant building is the strong column weak beam. A failure in the column directly leads to a collapse on other structural components to which they are connected: even it is the limit state of collapse to the whole building One of the reasons why a building fails in an earthquake is the selection of soft story structure The research objective was to determine increase stiffness, maximum load capacity dhue to the brick as a load, the structure, structure the column confinement and structure based on SNI to a shop buildings in the city Padangsidimpan who reviewed the feasibility resistant to earthquakes. The method applied is the numeric simulation with finite element method. The result shows that the maximum base shear force of bricks in x axis is 1,268.12 kg (loading brick) 2,121 03 kg (brick as structure), 2,339.96 kg (confinement of brick column), and 2,924,36 kg (SNI standard brick). The result also shows that the maximum shear force base of bricks in x axis is 1,265 70 kg (loading brick) 6.048.19 kg (brick as structure). 6.395 49 kg (confinement of brick column), and 6,702. 15 kg (SN1 standard brick) The base shear force increases 1.75 times (brick as structure), 1.85 times (confinement of brick column), and 231 times (SNI standard brick) compared to the loading brick The stiffness increases 4.52 times (brick as structure), 5.08 times (confinement of brick. column), and 5.54 times (SNI standard brick)
