Hubungan Penggunaan Rokok Elektrik terhadap Laju Aliran Saliva Pada Pria Perokok Elektrik di Asosiasi Personal Vaporizer Indonesia (APVI) Medan

Abstract

E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that are used to inhale nicotine by way of vaporization. The survey shows an increase in the prevalence of e-smokers from 0.3% to 3% from 2011 to 2021. The nicotine contained in e-cigarettes can affect the activity of the salivary glands which can result in decrease in the salivary flow rate. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of e-cigarettes and salivary flow rates in male at APVI Medan. The research design uses analytic survey with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were male users in the APVI Medan with a total sample of 50 people. The sampling method was purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out directly by filling out a questionnaire and collecting saliva by the subject. Processing and analysis of data with unpaired t-test, One Way ANOVA, and Mann Whitney test. The results showed that there was a relationship between the duration of e-cigarette use and the salivary flow rate (p=0.028), the frequency of e-cigarette use and the salivary flow rate (p=0.004), and the amount of liquid used with salivary flow rate (p=0.015). The conclusion of this study shows that there is a relationship between the use of electric cigarettes and the salivary flow rate in male at APVI Medan and the average of salivary flow rate in e-smokers is still in the normal category.
