By using the quantitative method, this study delves into the effect of innovation and communication on the quality-of-service competency at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Library. It aims to develop human resources in the library sector and focus on the role of innovation and communication to improve librarian communication. This study employs survey design research that distributes questionnaires to the USU librarians to collect all the necessary data. The variables assessed include the innovation implemented in the library, the librarian's internal and external communication, as well as the quality-of-service competency. In the end, all the data are processed by descriptive statistic method and regression analysis to identify the relation of each variable. The findings of the study help us understand how much innovation and communication affect a librarian's ability to provide a high-quality service. In addition to that it shows how positive and significant the innovation is to the quality-of-service competency. The innovations include the use of information technology, new service development, and improvement in the quality of competency. Besides, excellent internal and external communication give a positive effect on the librarian service competency. It is a fact that the use of library and effective communication between librarians and their colleagues help to strengthen the collaboration and library service.
