Background :
Commercial sex workers (cSW) are people who usually have sexual activities with
many different sexual partners and have very high mobility. Indirect commercial sex
worker (ICSW) refers to someone who despite of his main job, also offer sex
commercially at entertainment place. Increasing syphilis cases and transsexual
population as ICSWs with high motility are problems that must be concemed due to
the possibility of syphilis transmittion in transsexuals as ICSWs at some location in
Medan and Deli Serdang.
Objective :
To determine the syphilis proportion and characteristics the association of total last
week sexual partners, sexual activities style, the use of condom with the incidence of
syphilis in transsexuals as ICSWs at some location in Medan and Deli Serdang.
Subject and methode :
This study is a cross sectional observation study, done in Mei 200g _ Jan 2009
involved 100 subjects with more than 14 years ord. Data was co ected about age,
education, main job, first sexual activity age, sexual activity style, total tu.t *i[
se-xual partners, use ofcondom, cleanser that was used after sexual activities, and use of antibiotics. Data was analyzed with Chi-square and p>0,05 was determined
statistically signifi cant.
Result :
Syphilis proportion in transsexual as ICSWs in some locations in Medan and Deli
Serdang was 44o/o (44 subjects). Most syphilis patients were found in STD clinic on Jl. Veteran No.l46 Medan. Most transsexual were 26-35 years old, SMA/STM
education level and work in beauty salon. Most ofthem did th;ir did their first sexual
activity at 5-10 years old and their sexual activity style were oral and anal sex. Most
of them had l-5 persons as their sexual partners in the last week, and did not use
condom. Soaps were the most common cleanser they used after sexual activities. Most
ofthe transsexuals in this study did not use antibiotics.
Conclusion :
No statistically significant association was found between total last week sexual
parhers, sexual activities style, and the use of condom with syphitis incidence in
transsexuals as ICSWs at some location in Medan and Deli Serdang
