North Sumatra is a province with a high percentage of poor people. To determine poverty reduction policies, the factors that influence poverty should be noticed properly. In addition, poverty in each region has different characteristics, so it is necessary to develop regional groupings in order to direct the right policies. The purpose of this study is to determine poverty mapping with hierarchical cluster analysis in North Sumatra in 2019. This study used six variables, namely average length of schooling, unemployment rate, minimum wage, percentage of agricultural sector workers, estimated life expectancy, and net enrolment ratio of primary school. The result showed that North Sumatra was divided into four groups according to the characteristics of poverty.en_US
