PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II (PTPN II) is a state-owned enterprise engaged in the
plantation sector. The company owns oil palm, sugar cane, and tobacco plantations and
other business units. The problem faced by the company is that the planned performance
targets have not been achieved. It was caused by unachieved target of RKAP(Company
Work Plan and Budget for period 2015-2020 and the achievement of Health Assessment
Level of State –Owned Enterprises Categories B and BB ( Unhealthy). The purpose of this
study is to analyze the effect of Market Orientation and Corporate Innovation variables on
the performance of the PTPN II business unit with Competitive Advantage as a mediating
variable, and digital transformation as a moderating variable. The population of this
research are business unit leaders who are at Top Management, Middle Management, and
Lower Management. The research sample was 255 people representing every 25 existing
business units. The sampling technique used was Proportional Cluster Sampling and
Stratified Random Sampling. The analytical tool used is Structural Equation Modeling
using the SmartPLS application. The results show that market orientation and company
innovation have a positive and significant effect on competitive advantage, respectively.
Market orientation and company innovation each has a positive but not significant effect
on business unit performance. Competitive advantage has a positive and significant effect
on the performance of business units. Digital transformation moderates the effect of market
orientation on business unit performance. Digital transformation does not moderate the
influence of corporate innovation on business unit performance. Competitive advantage
mediates the effect of market orientation on the performance of the PTPN II business unit.
