Research has been carried out on the manufacture of bioplastics with
variations in the composition of porang starch: chitosan with glycerol plasticizer and
the effect of adding sorbitol (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) with the melt intercalation
method, at a gelatinization temperature of 800C and a burning temperature of 700C.
Physical test results obtained with the highest thickness value of 0.28 mm; the highest
density is 1.8448 gr/mm3; the highest water absorption is 36.36%. The highest tensile
strength value was found in bioplastics with 80% glycerol plasticizer and the addition
of 75% sorbitol variation of 0.7797 MPa. While the lowest value of the tensile strength
of bioplastics with 100% glycerol plasticizer with the addition of 50% sorbitol was
0.3280 MPa. The highest elongation value was found in bioplastics with 80% glycerol
plasticizer and the addition of 75% sorbitol variation of 155.20%. While the lowest
elongation value of bioplastics with 80% glycerol plasticizer with the addition of 25%
sorbitol variation was 36.24%. The percentage of degradation until the fourth week
increases every week to the highest percentage of 46.89%. The SEM results with 1000
and 2000 times magnification respectively showed that there was still agglomeration
due to the influence of gelatinization temperature and homogeneity. The FT-IR results
showed the same groups as the constituent components, namely O-H, C-H, and N-H.
