dc.description.abstract | Obesity is currently a problem that needs to be watched out for, not only for adults but also for kids and teens. Obesity is a risk factor for chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, including stroke and heart disease, as well as other metabolic disorders. Prevention of nutritional problems in school children in Indonesia has also been carried out but is still limited to health promotion. This qualitative study with an Action Research design aims to design a strategy to prevent obesity in elementary school children with overweight status in Medan City. Participants in this study were mothers who had elementary school children. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, FGD, weighing and documentation. Data analysis by looking at changes in food consumption and children's weight. The results showed that children's food consumption did not vary, and they never monitored their children's weight after they were over five years old. Action to prevent obesity in school children is to provide food recommendation in the form of Food Choice Card as a result of an analysis of the optifood application as a guide for mothers in feeding their children and monitoring weight at home which mothers do once a month. and the results of weighing are recorded in the Healthy and Smart Children Nutrition Card (PEGASDAS). After being given food recommendation and monitoring their weight for three months, the children's food consumption has varied and they are willing to eat vegetables and school children's weight from previously there were 12 children with overweight status to only four people who still have overweight status. Food recommendation with the Food Choice Card and monitoring weight at home once a month using the PEGASDAS Card are strategies for preventing obesity in elementary school children. It is hoped that monitoring the weight of school children will become a routine activity that needs to be carried out by mothers at home and the use of the PEGASDAS Card as a tool for monitoring the nutritional status of children can be applied in UKS activities at school. | en_US |
