    Abstract
Purun is a type of grass which widely used as raw material for woven handicrafts. In aim to make purun products more attractive to consumers, purun is generally colored using synthetic dyes which, if used in the long term, can cause environmental damage. In case of the impact caused by synthetic dyes, research of natural dyes for purun (Lepironia articulata) woven raw materials is needed. Teak leaves, mahogany bark and soursop leaves have the potential to be used as natural dyes. The purpose of this study is to compare the natural dye produced from 3 (three) types of raw materials with 3 (three) treatment, the effect on both the anatomy and the dimensions of the fiber and its retentive value. Teak leaves, mahogany bark and soursop leaves as raw materials for natural dyes in this study are extracted by three treatments those are, fresh extraction, soaking in hot water and ethanol maceration, thus obtained 9 natural dye treatment that will be applied to L. articulata. Research shows the raw materials and extraction methods used affect the obtained colors. Some dyes give a noticeable difference in the value of runkel ratio, felting power, muhlsteph ratio and coefficient of rigidity of the L. articulata. L. articulata fiber which is classified as long and has a high felting power value indicates that the use of purun by the community as a woven raw material is appropriate, because it will produce a high quality product. The retention obtained from 9 natural dye treatments on purun is a lake L. articulata is between 1.7 – 4.5%.
